Rehab advice or rehab consulting helps families facing addiction. 1,000s of drug and alcohol rehabs operate in the USA and Canada. Which type of rehab programs get and expect results and which programs expect the client to work out their own recovery? Listing them all is impossible. But there is an answer coming.

Rehab That’s Right:

A recovered former drug or alcohol abuser is fully rational and in control of their lives when they have ended their addiction.

Yet many American and Canadian detox and rehab centers discharge clients when either:

* the person’s 28 days are up
* a treatment result is obtained, but not a rehabilitation result

Yet, neither of those conditions for discharge satisfy criteria for a successful and complete detox and rehabilitation. Instead the rehab program staff often shuffles the person off to out-patient counseling, a 1/2 Way House or 12 Step meetings in their local area. Was rehab the goal or simply a treatment result?

There is a physical dependence, proven by the altered state of various brain chemicals whilst under the influence.

I was present the first time my two best friends tried cocaine. They encouraged me to participate in their experimentation – I refused – but quietly observed their reactions to the drugs supposed “euphoric” effects. The following weekend, the same scenario presented itself; again, I refused and noticed how eager they were to partake in the drug again. Something about their level of anxiousness was unsettling; almost as if they were being driven to the drug by strange, unseen forces beyond their control. Control? Oh, yes, of course my friends proclaimed that they were in complete control of the drug – they would never become addicted!

With each passing weekend, my friends appeared to be increasingly eager to begin the night earlier and stay out later. I began to notice how much money they were expending to acquire the drugs and the increased level of alcohol consumption that appeared to compliment their cocaine habit – yes – a habit was forming. Of course, I tried to bring my observations to their attention, but my pleas were met with strong resistance. “I am in control!” they proclaimed. It was clear to me (observing from outside their cocaine-hazed weekends), that they were losing control rapidly. Continue reading ‘Cocaine Took My Friends’ »

If you desire to stop using drugs and you intend to stay off them then you must go through a process which is called drug detox first. Anyone can become addicted to taking drugs, regardless of how you have begun using the drug, most drugs will not take awfully long to become ingrained in your body. Drug detox aims to relieve your body of all the elements which have permitted the drug to become deep-rooted within your body. At the best of times drug detox is never easy, it is always uncomfortable and on occasion can be particularly harrowing.

You certainly need to have strength of character in order to give up taking drugs. There are sufficient numbers of drug detox centers which will allow you to sign yourself in where you can spend a week or so going through drug detox, but if you do not have the fortitude and strength, then you will be back to routine, with the predictable drug using cycle as soon as you come out of the clinic. You want absolute pledge in order to survive the drug detox process and the succeeding therapy, but where do you get the fortitude for this?
