Aggrenox is a gelatine capsule for oral administration prescribed to reduce the risk of stroke for people who have had blood clots or mini-stroke or transient ischemic attack or TIA earlier. Its two main active ingredients are aspirin and dipyridamole (in an extended release form). Both are antiplatelet agent. Aspirin reduces the substances which can cause inflammation like fever, pain etc. And dipyridamole prevents the platelets from sticking together thereby preventing clots to form.
Those allergic to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs especially aspirin should not take aggrenox. Also those who have combination of asthma, runny nose and nasal polyps should not take aggrenox. Aspirin should not be given to a child or teenager who has a fever, especially if the child also has flu symptoms or chicken pox as it can cause Reye’s syndrome in them. Aggrenox increases the risk of bleeding in almost all the body part even brain, stomach, guts and intestine and it can also prolongs the bleeding. For this reason, patients having history of stomach ulcer or drinkers should avoid taking the medicine. One should inform the doctor of any prescriptions that one is taking before starting the medication. Those with severe liver or kidney problems or a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia should avoid the medicine. Continue reading ‘Aggrenox is a gelatine capsule for oral administration’ »

Hemorrhoids are a common health condition worldwide. The best way to prevent hemorrhoids is to keep stools soft so they pass easily, thus decreasing pressure and straining, and to empty bowels as soon as possible after the urge occurs. Exercise, including walking, and increased fiber in the diet help reduce constipation and straining by producing stools that are softer and easier to pass.
Good sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In addition, doctors may suggest a bulk stool softener or a fiber supplement such as psyllium or methylcellulose. Along with over-the-counter topical agents, there are several modalities at the disposal of physicians to treat piles. However, many of these modalities can be distressing for the patient. The elevation of a traumatized area is the most important initial treatment of an injury. It should be elevated as soon as possible twelve to sixteen inches above the level of the heart to decrease bleeding and capillary pressure. This is critical the first three to seven days after the injury. Lack of elevation is the cause of the thumping and pounding of your pulse at the injury site which, in turn, results in swelling and pain. Ice or cold slows circulation at an injury site and decreases bleeding. Ice should be placed gently against the wound about five to twenty minutes per hour as tolerated. This should be done for at least the first five to seven days and, depending on the injury, up to ten to twelve days after the injury. Ice in an ice bag or blue ice pack should have at least a half inch layer of a thick towel against the skin. The object is to cool, but not to burn, freeze, or damage any healthy superficial tissues and cause other substantial secondary damage and problems.
Heat is usually good only after seven to twelve days. This depends on the size and amount of damage as well as the damaged site. Heat allows the damaged blood vessels to heal by increasing the circulation for repair. Early heat to a new acute injury will definitely increase bleeding, swelling, and pain. It will lengthen the recovery time and induce future pain. Don’t use immediately after a new injury. Heat should only be on low, not hot or high: the objective is gentle warming. A heating pad on low heat with at least half inch layers of a thick terrycloth towel under the site will provide gentle warming therapy. An external ace bandage, gently and lightly applied, may compress a new injury causing a stopping or slowing of the bleeding and controlling the pain and swelling. An ace should never be applied too tightly. Never sleep with a boot, ace or splint applied. This includes even a short nap. You may awake with permanent nerve or circulatory damage. Capable of determining what works in the battle to turn back a disorder as difficult to understand and hard to isolate or identify as lupus is a puzzle indeed. Initially you have to identify the challenge. Churchill?s Medical Dictionary defines lupus as ?a multisystem sickness of not known ethiology.? The American Journal of Medicine calls it ?a chronic inflammatory sickness of the connective tissue resulting from not known effect.? _ Oh, there is a aid: ?unknown causes.?
A slight extra facts comes from the academic American Encyclopedia, which state that skin lesions is an autoimmune disease in which the body bring about abnormal antibodies that assault regular body tissue as though it were a foreign invader. Currently we are arriving somewhere! I will get back to this issue in a minute. Continue reading ‘What are skin lesions?’ »

My first panic attack appeared, out of the blue, while I was in line to get on an airplane. I was headed to my hometown in Oregon.
The panic attack was not caused by my fear of flying! I didn’t have any fear of flying.
You see, I was a pilot, and still am. In those early 80’s I flew my own aircraft and I really liked it! Continue reading ‘Cure Panic Attacks – The Simple Way.’ »

What defines art? Is it the medium? No, because art can be made with anything and the only thing that hinders the artistic from doing so is the limitation of technology. An artist would shape and mould air if he could, or twist plasma into magnificent forms if it was possible. Art is not material dependent, though material does play a major role.

The human papilloma virus (HPV) is the cause of both genital and non-genital warts. This is a very common family of viruses. There are actually more than 100 different strains of HPV. Of these, approximately 30 exist in the genital area and can cause genital warts (condyloma acuminata). These 30 strains can be further broken down to “high” and “low” risk strains.
High risk strains may cause changes in a Pap smear which may rarely progress to cancer. There are approximately 13 high-risk strains of HPV, of which two (16 & 18) are believed to cause about 70% of all cervical cancer. Low risk strains sometimes cause changes in a Pap smear, but do not progress to cancer. Of the low-risk strains, two (6 &11) are most likely to cause genital warts.
