			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Waverley West is going to have a new neighborhood planned for itself, along with a few other regions in Canada, where most of the homes are going to be <strong>disability</strong>-friendly, with provision of arrangements for people on wheelchairs. Approximately 670 out of the total number of 1,225 homes slated to come up in the northwest quadrant of Waverley West would be under the category of &#8216;visitable housing&#8217;., which is basically a term for homes that don&#8217;t need any kind of modification to allow people with <strong>disability</strong> to move around comfortably.</p>
<p>These homes would have wide doorways to accommodate easy movement of wheelchairs, no steps in the front of the house, as well as restrooms on the main floor. This is an appreciable initiative after many advocates for disabled people have been asking city authorities to build more <strong>disability</strong>-friendly homes.<span id="more-1913"></span></p>
<p>Allen Mankewich, spokesman for the Canadian Centre on Disability Studies, has revealed that this proposed plan has the largest compendium of visitable homes in Canada. In his own words, &#8220;This is obviously a great step for the City of Winnipeg.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;We try to promote it as something for everyone. Even if you or somebody in your immediate family doesn&#8217;t utilize it, they may in the future.</p>
<p>&#8220;It allows people to stay longer in their homes and possibly be less reliant on public health services.</p>
<p>&#8220;It may cost a little more up front, but pays off in the long run.&#8221;</p>
<p>According to Paul McNeill, regional vice-president of the MMM Group, the consulting firm responsible for creating the Waverley West northwest plan on behalf of the developer, Manitoba Housing, the cost of building is only slightly higher than a regular home, but the benefits are aplenty.</p>

And for those 5 to 10% of women that also have more severe forms of PMS, any additional things they can do to help offset their signs help not only them, but everyone in their lives.</p>
<p>What is PMS</p>
<p><span id="more-33692"></span></p>
<p>PMS is a syndrome that occurs once each month for many women.  It can vary from being barely noticeable to being something that&#8217;s a bit more obvious in some cases.  With over 150 symptoms associated with PMS, it can be hard to make an official diagnosis.  Some of the more common symptoms include:</p>
<p>Water retention<br />
Weight gain of up to ten pounds in some women<br />
Moodiness and crankiness, angry outbursts<br />
Abdominal pain and bloating<br />
Food cravings and appetite changes<br />
Breast tenderness<br />
Acne<br />
Headache</p>
<p>These symptoms signal a change in the body&#8217;s hormone levels preceding menstruation.  As the body begins to get ready to produce an egg during the cycle, the body temperature can increase and these symptoms can occur until the egg is released into the fallopian tubes for fertilisation.  When the egg is not fertilised, it is shed along with the built up lining of the uterus to produce a period.  When this happens, hormones return to normal levels and PMS symptoms subside  in most women.</p>
<p>For many women, the symptoms begin about a week before their period or even earlier and for a longer period of time.  In some severe cases, women can experience extreme changes in mood and ability to reason.  Those cases require prescribed medications in order to help the woman feel better during this time.</p>
<p>Treatments Used to Treat PMS</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not necessarily possible to treat PMS without eliminating the menstrual cycle altogether.  Since PMS occurs when hormone levels fluctuate, in order to prevent it, you would need to create a cycle in which hormone levels are steadier.  During pregnancy, for example, this can occur.</p>
<p>To mimic the hormonal effects of pregnancy, some women will begin to take birth control pills as a way to lessen their PMS symptoms.  These pills are synthetic hormones that create the idea in your body that hormone levels are steadier and can reduce any ill effects from the menstrual cycle  in addition to preventing pregnancy.</p>

By helping to reduce the inflammation in the body, the pain can be lessened dramatically. <p>The female body is often more difficult to understand as the reproductive cycle can affect other parts of the body so easily  as evidenced by the issues with PMS. There are times when x-rays are necessary, but if there is a safer and effective alternative to routine yearly mammograms, why not check it out?</p>

Itâ€™s not ideal to simply stop going places though â€“ after all you still need to buy shopping and visit friends and family.  It is always important to stay mobile in one way or another.</p>
<p>A good solution in this case is to consider getting one of the many styles of mobility scooters that are now available.  The difference between these and wheelchairs is quite evident when you look at the two together.  A wheelchair doesnâ€™t have any steering aids at the front.  Even on electric models the steering is generally done from one of the arms.<span id="more-1059"></span></p>
<p>With a scooter, you will see that there are handlebars at the front.  They will also invariably have a basket attached to them, which can be used for putting shopping in.  The wheels of these scooters are also very different to those of wheelchairs.  All wheelchairs have two larger wheels at the back, with smaller ones at the front.  A wheelchair has a very small turning capability as well.  You would need a much larger space to be able to turn round in one of these <a title="Mobility Scooters" href="http://www.mobilityaidsguide.com/Mobility-Scooters-155.asp" target="_blank">mobility scooters</a> in fact very much like a three point turn in a car.</p>
<p>A lot of the scooters are also equipped with lights on the front and back, to make it much safer to be out and about on them.  You may even find a mirror or two on there as well.</p>
<p>Many people who are semi-mobile get on very well with a scooter.  They may be perfectly able to walk short distances inside shops, but not be able to get there in the first place.  Mobility scooters mean that they can actually be much more active in some ways, and do more for themselves than they would be able to without one.</p>
<p>In a sense these scooters enable many people to retain their independence. They are easy to maintain and use, and if it makes life easier there is no doubt that it could be the best thing you could ever buy.</p>

<p>Cancer is one of the most devastating diseases on the planet. Anybody who has gone through this disease and survived or has a friend or family member who has knows just how intense and horrible it can be. Luckily there are many different things that anybody can do to help prevent cancer in themselves and that&#8217;s what I would like to talk about in this article today.</p>
<p>We can&#8217;t yet cure cancer but we do know many things that help prevent it. Unfortunately there is no quick fix and many of these techniques require major lifestyle changes from what most of us are used to today. They mainly have to deal with food, what we eat, and how we eat it which may not be music to most people&#8217;s ears.<span id="more-2731"></span></p>
<p>Most studies show that eating less dietary fat can cut your risk of cancer dramatically in most cases. On the flip side, eating more dietary fat certainly raises the risk for certain cancers such as breast and colon and maybe even prostate.</p>
<p>It really basically just comes down to one thing. You should eat less of the foods that are known to increase your risk of cancer and you should eat more of the foods that help prevent it. So what foods are these?</p>
<p>Beef, pork, poultry, and fish consumption should be minimized as much is possible because they can be concentrated sources of dioxin, polychlorinated biphenyls and other carcinogens.</p>
<p>On the other hand, you should increase your consumption of vegetables and fruits as well as dietary fiber. Always wash your produce thoroughly if you can&#8217;t peel it completely. The jury is still out on whether or not organic food is better than regular food when it comes to produce but I tend to believe it is so I buy organic whenever possible.</p>
<p>Apart from eating more healthy you should also increase your consumption of water. A good rule of thumb is to drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day or roughly 4 tall glasses based on regular sized kitchen glasses. Water helps flush out carcinogens from your body and overall promotes good health.</p>
<p>Finally you should cut out as much processed foods as you possibly can because these foods almost always have a lot of trans fatty acids and also refined sugars and salts.</p>
<p>So there you have several very simple tips that almost anybody can use to help cut their risk of cancer, sometimes by as much as two thirds or more. If prevention is the name of the game then this is clearly the first play in the playbook.</p>
