Cervical cancer attacks the cervix or cervical region caused by a viral infection of HPV (human papillomavirus) which did not recover in time. If the immune system decreases, the HPV infection will dangerous and can lead to cervical cancer.
The symptoms are not too visible at an early stage, that’s why the beginning of cervical cancer HPV infection is considered as “The Silent Killer”.
Some symptoms can be observed although not always an indication of HPV infection. Whitish or spend a bit of blood after intercourse is little sign of symptoms of this cancer. In addition, the foul-smelling yellowish fluid in the genital area can also be an indication of HPV infection. This virus can be transmitted from one patient to another and infect the person. Can be transmitted through direct contact and by sexual intercourse. Continue reading ‘Causes and Symptoms of Cervical Cancer’ »

The human papilloma virus (HPV) is the cause of both genital and non-genital warts. This is a very common family of viruses. There are actually more than 100 different strains of HPV. Of these, approximately 30 exist in the genital area and can cause genital warts (condyloma acuminata). These 30 strains can be further broken down to “high” and “low” risk strains.
High risk strains may cause changes in a Pap smear which may rarely progress to cancer. There are approximately 13 high-risk strains of HPV, of which two (16 & 18) are believed to cause about 70% of all cervical cancer. Low risk strains sometimes cause changes in a Pap smear, but do not progress to cancer. Of the low-risk strains, two (6 &11) are most likely to cause genital warts. Types of HPV demonstrate a high degree of site specificity, with some HPV types only found on certain parts of the skin or mucous membranes. The overall prevalence of HPV in women is 22-35%. In men, the prevalence is 2-35% depending on the sexual practices of the population being studied.
HPV infection alone does not cause malignant transformation of infected tissue. Cofactors, such as tobacco use, ultraviolet radiation, pregnancy, folate deficiency, and immune suppression, have been implicated in this process. Patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs and patients with defects in cell-mediated immunity, including those infected with HIV are especially susceptible to developing HPV infections. One of the most prevalent cases of cancer is skin cancer. In the US alone it is estimated that 1 million citizens are affected with this kind of disease. It is important that we are aware of how skin cancer develops and how it can be prevented to avoid its fatal consequences.
In order to understand how skin cancer develops, one should first have an idea on the parts of the skin and how they function.
The skin is composed of two layers – the outermost part is called the epidermis while the innermost part is called the dermis. The epidermis is composed of flat cells called squamos cells. Under them are round cells referred to as basal cells. There are also the melanocytes cells which form the color of the skin and are found in the lower portion of the skin’s epidermis.
Just underneath the epidermis is the dermis containing lymph and blood vessels as well as glands. Some of these produce sweat that helps the body to cool down. Some glands also produce sebum, an oily material which helps the skin to remain moisturized. Both sweat and sebum are able to reach the skin’s surface by going through pores.
Just like in any part of the body, cells are considered as the skin’s basic units. Skin cells expand and multiply into new cells. Skin cells also die, leaving new cells to further develop. Continue reading ‘Beautiful Skin – Causes and Signs of Skin Cancer’ »

Cancer of the bowel or colorectal cancer as it is commonly called is cancer that goes after the cells that are around the bowel itself. This type of cancer is really very curable if caught and treated early on. And early on treatment is the key here. If it becomes advanced, the chances of a successful remission of this cancer are smaller.
Basically what happens in bowel cancer, is that there is what is referred to as a mutation occurs. The cells which link back to genes, begin to become uncontrolled, and thus, a number of cells bunch together, forming cancer. Polyps are actually what these formations are called, and in this stage of pre-cancer, are called an adenoma in medical terms. Polyps can be removed via a colonoscopy if found in time. If not found soon enough, these formations of polyps will continue their growth on and on, until they are lodged in the colon, forming the cancer growing environment there. So this explains why a colonoscopy is good preventive care.
Once these polyps have now turned cancerous, you would begin to notice symptoms. The main thing a person will then notice is bleeding from the rectum. Continue reading ‘Bowel Cancer and the Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments’ »

Prevalence
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of adult cancer death, accounting for an estimated 42,470 new cases and 35,240 deaths in USA for 2009. The high mortality rate is due to the high incidence of metastatic disease at initial diagnosis, the aggressive clinical course and the failure of current therapies.
Causes
It is not clear what causes pancreatic cancer, but some risk factors have been linked to the disease. Modifiable risk factors that have been associated with pancreatic cancer include: Continue reading ‘Pancreatic Cancer: Causes, Prevention, Prognosis, Diagnosis And Latest Treatment’ »

Acute myelogenous leukemia is the most common leukemia and is a fast growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Blood cells in the body are made up of platelets known as white and red blood cells. Those who have AML don’t have enough white or red blood cells and instead posses abnormal cells that grow quickly as the illness progresses.
AML is not genetic nor is it infectious however it is mostly caused by being exposed to benzene.
What is Benzene?
Benzene is an organic chemical compound. Benzene is used in production of oil, rubber, dyes and plastic. Benzene is commonly used as an additive in other chemicals. There are small amounts of benzene used in manufacturing processes for instance, detergents, pesticides and drugs. Continue reading ‘Acute Myelogenous Leukemia – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment’ »

What is Gout and What are the Symptoms – Learn More About What is Gout and What are the Symptoms
The disease of Gout is caused by the accumulation of too much uric acid in the body. Substances called purines are broken down and the outcome is an abundance of uric acid. Purines can be found in tissues all over the body. Purines can also be found in many foods that we eat such as liver, anchovies, peas, and green beans. Generally uric acid is naturally dissolved in the blood.
The uric acid passes through the kidneys in the body and then exits the body in the urine. Sometimes though uric acid builds up in the blood when:
- The body naturally increases the amount of uric acid it produces.
- The kidneys, for some reason, do not do their job of purifying the blood and does not exit enough of the uric acid from the body.
- A person eats a diet that consists of foods that have high levels of purines. Continue reading ‘What Is Gout And What Are The Symptoms ????’ »

The sun which provides life on this planet and without it we couldn’t survive, has received an enormous amount of bad press lately. Over the last 30 to 40 years we’ve been told by governments and our health care system to keep our skin out of the sun because it causes cancer
The true facts are the cause of skin cancer doesnot lie entirely with the sun as there was very little a few years ago and it’s been slowly increasing over the last 40 to 50 years. The sun certainly hasn’t changed and the ozone layer that protects us from harmful radiation is only a problem over the Antarctic where nobody lives but there is something else that has changed over that same period.
It’s the sun, combined with nutritional deficiency that is causing so much skin cancer. It’s the irritation caused by the sun burn that will determine where the cancer will take hold, but it’s the nutritional deficiencies and other lifestyle factors which is causing it to grow and that’s why it keeps reappearing after treatments. The current treatments are not addressing the root cause of the problem and we of course are just blaming the sun. Continue reading ‘Skin Cancer And Melanomas, Learn The Truth About The Sun’ »
