The 2 foods that will make you fat I’m going to chat about in my article will astound you… most people by mistake consider these 2 foods are “healthy”. Ever since I can remember these 2 foods generally surprise friends and family when I point out they should consider eliminating these foods from their diet.

Just about everyone these days recognize how bad trans fats and high fructose corn syrup are for you, so I worked out instead of giving another article about these 2 terrible foods… I write about 2 foods that will alarm you, and help make you chubby or may be the reason why you are currently plump.

The first variety of food that is time and again wrongly thought to be beneficial for you is wheat products… these usually include most pastas, cereals, breads, crackers, muffins, bagels and so forth. And yes, I am counting “whole wheat” in this grouping of food that will make you plump.

To begin with, a huge percentage of the western world has some level of intolerance to gluten which is found in wheat and some other grains. The most at risk to gluten is clearly celiacs. Now most of the population don’t relize, the human digestive system was never meant to eat large portions of wheat.

For approximately 2000 years since wheat was introduced into the human diet, it’s only been the last 100 years that it has been consumed in excessively large quantities. So compared to the length of time the human race has been evolving for and the time frame in which wheat products have been consumed, the digestive system which has been developing over several hundred thousand years consuming a assortments of meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds our digestive system completely come to terms or become accustomed to coping with wheat products in the amounts we are consuming as a society.

From my own trial and error over many years, I have established that if I didn’t have any type of wheat in my diet for a period of around 2 weeks to see if I lost some off season weight, I found this made a big difference. I found compared to other “pre-seasons” I had undertaken where I had consumed wheat products that I lost the unwanted “off-season” body fat alot faster. I also concluded that I wasn’t suffering from indigestion and skin ailments that I was prone to before I eliminated wheat from my diet.

The 2nd example of the worst foods that will surpise you because it is believed to be “healthy” is — fruit juice.

Please don’t misunderstand what I am trying to get across, I’m not an anti-carb supporter as such… Personally, I believe that most fruits are in fact very beneficial for us However, let me explain when I say fruit, I mean fruit as a whole and not separating the juice from the vital fibre which has so many valuable ingrediants.

If you separate the juice from fruits, you are not getting the appetite satisfying effect of the fiber in the actual fruit, all up you will be longing for more carbs. The fiber in the whole fruit actually slows your blood sugar response when eating whole fruit compared to fruit juice. This gives it a lower GI rating as opposed to a higher GI or spiking of your blood sugar levels.

So the bottom line is… over doing fruit juices will contribute to adding unwanted fat. On the other hand, eating whole fruits that includes all of the fiber helps you maintain a well balanced diet and high nutrient density. Now of course this will only be if the your diet as a whole isn’t littered with unprocessed foods.

Colon cancer surgery is a major medical procedure. After an individual has colon cancer surgery there are several diet options that can prevent the colon cancer from reoccurring. One of the biggest contributing factors to colon cancer is dietary fat. A diet that has a high fat consumption greatly increases the amount of bile acids that are released into the digestive tract. Once bile acids have entered the colon the acids can actually turn into secondary bile acids. These secondary bile acids can promote the growth of a tumor in the colon. It is very important that after colon cancer surgery, to prevent the cancer from reoccurring, to eat a diet that is low in fat.

Another great way to prevent colon cancer is to eat a diet that is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are praised as an important substance in fighting colorectal cancer and other cancers of the body. Antioxidants give the body’s immune system a boost that acts as a defensive line against harmful free radicals.

Foods that are rich in antioxidants are vegetables and fruits. Even some types of tea are rich in antioxidants. Two very important antioxidants are selenium and beta-carotene. These two antioxidants are responsible for helping the body repair the damage caused by dangerous free radicals. Doctors recommend that an individual eat foods that are rich in antioxidants instead of taking a supplement.

Folic acid, calcium and vitamin D are both valuable resources in the fight against rectal cancer. Folic acid helps to form new tissues and cells in the body. Plus folic acid is in charge of keeping the red blood cells healthy. Foods that are rich in folic acid are dark leafy green vegetables and citrus fruits. Recent studies have proven that both calcium and vitamin D play a big part in fighting off colon cancer. It is important to eat foods such as yogurt, cheese, milk, sardines, salmon, mustard and dark green leafy vegetables.

After colorectal cancer surgery an individual should pay attention to their fiber intake. Fiber is believed to improve the health of an individual by moving waste through the digestive tract at a faster speed. There are many foods that are good sources of fiber. Some of these foods are berries, prunes, whole grain cereals, fresh fruits, vegetables, brown rice and beans.

When following a special diet after rectal cancer surgery, make sure to choose foods to eat that come from natural plant sources. Also, limit the intake of high-fat foods. Many high-fat foods come from animal sources. Make sure to exercise on a regular basis in order to maintain a healthy weight. After colon cancer surgery it is in an individual’s best interest to limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages. All of these suggestions can help in the fight against colon cancer.

Recent studies have now shown that maintaining a quality diet can help in preventing breast cancer among many women. It seems that diet is becoming more and more at the centre of prevention these days and with good reason, you are what you eat.

Perhaps the problem is that most of us maintain only short periods of good diet and it does not become effective until it’s a full time life habit. The speed and pressure of modern lifestyle can make it difficult to avoid the convenience of processed food but if we are worried about long term health the issue is clear – diet is crucial.

We all need to get a little more serious about it.

This diet is being referred to as the prudent diet. It’s made up of whole grains, vegetables of course and fish. The usual suspects are kept to a minimum such as red meats and white bread or any other form of starchy carbohydrates.

Among women who took part in the study, 20 percent of those on prudent daily diets were one third less likely to develop breast cancer in comparison to those on a more ‘western diet’ of fatty and processed foods. As always however these trials are rarely black and white…

One subject which did complicate the study was that of age and weight which are both important points. The exact reasons are still unclear but the studies suggest that the benefits afforded by a prudent diet are mostly for thinner women. Overweight women will still be at high risk despite maintaining a prudent diet.

The overall lesson is once again that diet does so many things for so many diseases and gives each of us a universal insurance policy against a great variety of possible diseases.

In the world of medical fears, few things rank as high as cancer. For many people, a cancer diagnosis challenges their view of themselves as a “healthy person.” Fortunately, many cancers are curable. You can survive cancer and be healthy.

Cancer Biology 101

A basic understanding of how cancer develops can help you take advantage of what nutrition has to offer. Food can and should be a part of your plan for reducing the risk of cancer, and the risk of getting cancer again if you’ve already had it.

There are three basic steps to cancer development. Obviously, the process is very complicated at the cellular level. But the three-step model explains the most important changes that lead to cancer. These three steps represent some of the best opportunities for preventing cancer from developing at all.

Don’t Be Initiated Into This Club

The first step in cancer development is called “initiation.” One of the most common causes of initiation is free radical damage. Free radicals, which also go by the name oxidants, cause cell damage. Have you ever really thought about antioxidants? What is an oxidant? And why are we anti or against oxidants?

Oxidants cause oxidation, which is damaging to DNA – the instructions that tell cells what to do when. To wrap your head around oxidation, think of rusting.

Rusting is oxidation in the environment. Metal rusts and it no longer functions as it should. This same process happens in the body. We don’t exactly rust, but we do experience the same type of oxidation damage in our bodies.

This is where nutrition comes in. Vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds – plant foods – are loaded with antioxidants. And not just the common antioxidants we all know and love. Beyond vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene are hundreds, even thousands of antioxidants in plant foods.

It’s these thousands of antioxidants that work together to prevent oxidation in our bodies. In this very direct way, antioxidants in food prevent initiation. This is one of the ways by which plant foods are believed to reduce cancer risk.

But even with this plant protection, a few cells in our bodies are likely to be damaged or “initiated.” The key to preventing cancer development also lies with the next step, called “promotion.”

One Promotion You Don’t Want

The second step of the cancer development process, called promotion, doesn’t happen to just any cell. It happens to cells that already are initiated. We know plant foods limit the number of initiated cells, but what happens to the few cells that slip through the cracks?

Ideally, if a cell becomes damaged, it goes through a programmed cell death. This prevents it from multiplying and creating more damaged cells. However, for cells that are initiated, but don’t die, promotion, or step 2 can occur.

In promotion, damaged cells ignore the chemical messages of the normal cells around them. The damaged cell might be getting ready to multiply and grow. The normal cells in the neighborhood send chemical messages to prevent this. These messages say, “stop, wait, don’t go there.” Promotion allows damaged cells to tune out the “stop” messages.

Here’s where plant foods come to the rescue again. Among the thousands of nutrients found in plants are many that can help damaged cells hear the messages. These nutrients can, quite literally, act as little messengers. They make damaged cells sit up and take notice.

Dark purple and red foods seem to be especially adept at improving cellular communication. Think blackberries, blueberries, dark red cherries, grape juice, and red wine. Soy foods, such as tofu and tempeh, often touted for their possible effects on regulating female hormones such as estrogen, have some anti-promotion tricks up their sleeves as well.

And promotion is reversible. It’s one of the only parts of cancer development that can actually be turned back! Plant foods can help a “deaf” cell hear again. In a sense, this can help a damaged cell become closer to normal.

Stop This Progress If You Can

This brings us to “progression,” the third step in cancer development. In progression, damaged cells take the communication problem one step further. Now, these cells not only ignore messages. They begin to create their own messages. They try to influence the cells around them. It’s like negative peer pressure.

This is the damaged cells’ attempt to get normal cells to cooperate so they can grow and spread beyond the original site of cancer. This step is a key to metastasis – when cancer cells spread to distant parts of the body. This is important because it’s only after cancer cells have spread that treating cancer becomes so difficult.

You guessed it. Plant foods have a role to play in blocking progression too. Just as the thousands of naturally occurring phytonutrients in plants help damaged cells hear, they also help block unhealthy messages from damaged cells.

Many plant nutrients can act as roadblocks of a sort. They make it harder for damaged cells to influence the cells around them to misbehave too. Several nutrients have been studied for their effects on preventing or slowing progression.

Resveratrol, found in red wine and grape juice; lycopene, found in cooked tomatoes, watermelon, and pink grapefruit; and quercetin found in apples, tea, and onions all seem particularly well-suited for minimizing cancer cells’ ability to go through the progression phase of cancer development.

Putting Plants To Work For You

Knowing that plants contain nutrients that can slow down and impede the cancer process is pretty motivating. Every time you put a healthy plant food on your plate, you’ll feel good knowing you’re giving your body the tools to keep cancer at bay.

And it doesn’t hurt that these same foods help prevent other diseases as well. For preventing heart disease, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, arthritis, you name it … plants in the diet are nothing but helpful.

Every chance you get, throw in a plant food. You’ll be on your way to better health.

Blueberries on your oatmeal? Check. Apple with lunch? Check. Nuts in your afternoon yogurt? Check. Carrots and hummus as a snack while fixing dinner? Check. A heaping pile of veggies with dinner? Green leafies on your sandwich? Check.

The options are endless. The choice is up to you.

If you are suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms while trying to kick your habit, making some dietary changes can also help you during this process. These changes may sound pretty common sense but they are nonetheless important, so that you can truly become alcohol free and be put back in good health.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms include the following: trembling or shaking, various physical reactions, anxiety, insomnia and mental disturbances. This happens especially when you go cold turkey; that is you stop your habit of taking in large amounts of alcohol all of a sudden. Since your brain has already been used to the chemicals that come from your daily consumption of alcohol, withdrawing from alcohol can cause the said symptoms.

On a regular basis, your brain chemistry has already been accustomed to make up for the sedative. Your brain starts pumping out chemical relatives to adrenaline in amounts that your body is not meant to be exposed to on a regular basis. When this happens, you get a turbocharged brain that is sedated as well. However, once you take away the sedative of a racing brain, you can imagine that this would stimulate your brain even further.

Your highly charged brain will then cause you to have mental and bodily disturbances. In fact, if you do not manage your alcohol withdrawal symptoms properly, you may on the contrary cause harm to your body and mind. It will be a good idea to have a professional to help you through this period. In the meantime, you should also consider making some dietary changes can help reduce these effects and help put you towards recovery.

First, you should stop eating junk and processed foods and drinks as well as, coffee and dairy related products. While it may sound too much to ask from a recovering alcoholic, that is you not only have to give up your drinks but also all the unhealthy food, you may find it easier to stay sober when you are taught to eat healthily at the same time. Wholesome foods in particular fruits and vegetables can help repair the damage wreaked by the excessive and prolonged alcohol consumption. These components in the diet also help to reduce cravings for alcohol.

You also need to drink plenty of filtered water. Water helps to flush out toxins from your body and that includes the excess alcohol stored in your body. You will feel rejuvenated when you replace alcohol with good pure water.

It is also necessary to provide some much needed vitamin and mineral supplements for additional support. In particular, B vitamins are said to be especially helpful as alcoholics are likely to be deficient in these. You may also be suffering from internal injuries and damage as a result of alcohol abuse. Your doctor can help you identify which supplements to take to help repair tissue cells of the affected organ. If you have ulcers, you would also need to eat many small meals.

Once you begin to eat healthily, you may want to stay more at home to prepare these meals and away from the bars and pubs. Eating healthily is also good if you also have high blood pressures or cholesterol problems that you have to deal with.

By not putting harmful substances and toxins inside you and making a step towards healthier eating, you are more likely to remain alcohol free. You will find it easier to cope with alcohol withdrawal symptoms when you have a clear understanding of these.

If you are not familiar with the paleo diet, also known as the paleolithic, caveman or Stone Age diet, it is based on how humans ate before the Agricultural Revolution. It’s a re-creation, as much as possible in the modern world, of the hunter-gatherer’s diet.

When it comes to looking for healthy snacks, and snacks that are not fattening, there is no better place to look than the paleo diet, which rules out many junk foods typical of most snacks, such as refined sugar and grains. There are even no potatoes allowed in the paleo diet, so you can forget about potato chips!

In fact, even if you don’t strictly follow the paleo diet, you may want to seriously consider adopting it for your snack regimen. It can really make a big improvement in your eating habits, energy levels throughout the day and caloric intake. Let’s look at some of the paleo-friendly snacks we can start consuming as substitutes for the less healthy ones we are so used to.

Fresh Fruit – it is no mystery that fruit is healthy, but many people seldom eat it. Incidentally, fresh fruit is better in most cases than juice because even unsweetened fruit juice is highly concentrated and you may be getting more sugar and calories than you realize. With fresh fruit, you will tend to consume it in moderation. Of course, there is also the fact that when you eat whole foods you get the entire nutritional content of that food instead of just part of it. Remember, cavemen did not have juicers!

Salad & Vegetables – greens always make a healthy snack. You can mix up any kind of salad and veggie combination you like. Just watch what kind of dressing you use, for these often contain lots of sugar, sodium and calories. It’s best to use oil and vinegar or all natural dressings. Try making tahini dressing. This is easily made from tahini paste (which is crushed sesame seeds), water and either lemon juice or vinegar. You can also add sea salt and garlic to taste.

Dried Nuts & Fruits – also sold as trail mix. Try to get organic dried fruit and nuts, though any all natural mix is good. Okay, maybe cavemen did not eat trail mix either, but this is still a healthy way to consume these nutritious foods. Nuts are very high in protein and healthy fats. Peanuts are the least healthy of nuts, so try to stick to other nuts such as almonds, walnuts and cashews.

Chip Alternatives – you can now find healthy snacks that are alternatives to things like potato chips and pretzels. These are usually vegetable based chips. Sea veggie chips can be quite tasty and have many essential minerals. There are also chips made from fruits such as banana, plantain and mango.

These are just a few healthy snack ideas that are consistent with a paleo diet.

Marie Brody writes on many topics, from cultural issues to health and weight loss. Find out how you can prepare many healthy and delicious meals with the paleo diet.

What are the effects of smoking marijuana? We know about the long term effects of pot use. Have you ever considered the short term effects of smoking weed? Did you know that there are damages caused by short term marijuana use?

Smoking pot is not all the fun that some people would have you believe. Did you know that the euphoria, also known as the “giggles,” associated with getting high only happens the first couple of times you get stoned? Even then it is very short lived. You are then left with an almost uncontrollable urge to eat junk food, diet be damned!

This is often followed by sleepiness. Sound good? Now add dizziness to the mix and a person could become quite uncomfortable. Being as most people who are experiencing the short term effects of smoking marijuana like to do so with others, it isn’t long before self consciousness sets in. Most people will also feel disoriented, wondering if they just said what they were thinking or just thought it!

Forgetfulness is a side effect as well. This forgetfulness can be a double edged sword. A lot of people will smoke pot to forget, which is good until you want to remember something and cannot. Then this positive effect turns into a negative.

If you have anything to do, forget about it. Any motivation you had, before getting stoned other than to eat, gel out or sleep, will be gone. Pot smokers are not known for their desire to get things done.

I have left the best for last. The last short term side effect of smoking pot that I want to touch on is paranoia. If you have never experienced paranoia, let me tell you, it is no fun. You will think that people are talking about you, when they are not. You will think that everyone is staring at you, that you are the center of attention and you won’t want to be. Self consciousness sets in and is the most uncomfortable feeling of all.

I wrote this article based on experience and truth. Don’t waste your time with marijuana. It will only drag you down.

If you would like more information regarding the effects of marijuana and how to overcome addiction go to http://Effects-of-Marijuana.com/

If you or someone you love is caught in the web of addiction. There are lots of avenues to take. If you are looking for a discreet method with guaranteed, proven results then follow this link and quit smoking pot today!

Obesity is the main problem during pregnancy and may lead to diabetes in pregnant women. As per the latest survey carried out by the various research teams, there are no side effects of Phentermine in case of pregnant women if it is taken as per prescribed doses.

But if the doses of Phentermine are consumed in large quantity, there is a risk of abnormal development of foetus, so to reduce these risks, prescribed doses needs to be followed in proper manner under strict vigilance of the doctor. But it is an advice to the pregnant women that they should avoid Phentermine during pregnancy period because it may lead to gestational diabetes. Sometimes Phentermine can cause various withdrawal symptoms in case of pregnant women. To avoid all these side effects, Phentermine should be stopped before start of pregnancy stage and doctor needs to be consulted for more information about Phentermine.

In case of breast-feeding mothers, Phentermine is to be avoided, so that the newborn baby is safeguarded from various side effects. As Phentermine is from the family of sympathomimetic amines and it is almost similar to the Adipex-P, pregnant women should avoid taking Phentermine. This may lead to an addiction if the doses of Phentermine are taken in large quantities. If doctor permits you to go ahead with Phentermine during pregnancy period, you should gradually reduce the dose to avoid the symptoms of withdrawal. Before opting for Phentermine, please go through the instructions and quantity of doses written on the leaflet. Do not follow self-medication practice, it may result in abnormalities.

One of the greatest “urban legends” of the weight loss world is the General Motors diet, also known as the GM diet. This is a 7 day eating plan which is rumored to have been developed by GM in the 1980s to help workers lose weight. As far as I know, GM has never admitted to actually producing such a plan.

As of now, there is no official General Motors diet, there is no one who claims ownership or responsibility for this program, but it has still remained popular and well sought even after all these years.

There are several strict rules in this diet:

No alcohol is permitted
You have to drink a lot of water, at least 10 glasses each and every day
You can have water, soda, sugarless black tea, and sugarless black coffee. On the 7th day of the diet you’re also allowed fruit juices.
The program itself is a structured eating plan of 7 days. According to some sources, you can repeat the 7 day cycles as many times as you like it is all up to how much you need to lose and how well the diet agrees with you.
Here is how the 7 days are laid out:

Day One You can have any fruit that you crave except bananas. You eat fruit as often or as much as you like. There is a focus on melon and cantaloupe.

Day Two is vegetable day. You should eat fresh or cooked veggies. There is not mention of portions. No seasoning is allowed. Breakfast is a special case as you need to eat a large baked potato.

Day Three You can eat all fruits and veggies except bananas.

Day Four of the GM diet allows you to eat bananas and even encourages it. You should have up to 8 bananas and drink up to 3 glasses of milk

Day Five is beef and tomatoes day. Eat two 10 oz. portions of lean beef and 6 whole tomatoes. You should also increase your regular water intake by one quart.

Day Six This is beef and veggie day. Eat as much beef and vegetables as you like.

Day Seven On this day you can eat brown rice and vegetables, and drink juice fruits.

As you can see, the General Motors diet is not an easy plan to stick to. The food choices are peculiar and it’s difficult to figure out why the diet actually works. Some people swear by it, but I don’t believe it can be a long term lifestyle change as it is not so easy to stick to.
