We hear a lot these days about stem cell research, but many of us are unaware of what exactly stem cells are and what can be done with them. There are several types of stem cells including adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells reside throughout the human body within tissue, blood and organs; they are plentiful and readily available. Adult stem cells refers to the stage or maturity of the stem cell. They are also found in the tissues of the umbilical cord (after live birth), spinal cord, fat, bone marrow, dental pulp, nasal cavity, brain, peripheral blood, blood vessels, skeletal muscle, skin, cornea, digestive system, retina, liver, and pancreas.

Peripheral stem cell transplantation is the process of removing the stem cells from one person and donating them to a recipient- in my case it was my brother. In most cases donors are siblings since tissue type is most identical to the patient’s own. After it had been determined that I was a perfect match for my brother, I had a physical and endless blood work. I passed my tests and then it was on to phase one.

This involved six days of receiving neupogen shots which stimulate the release of stem cells from the bone marrow into my blood so they can be harvested for my brother. It’s important during this period to drink plenty of water. I had decided to go to the hospital each day for the shots, but some people opt to inject themselves at home. The shots sting a bit and after the first several days, mild bone aches began- mostly in my hip and sternum. It was nothing that an occasional tylenol couldn’t remedy. The sun which provides life on this planet and without it we couldn’t survive, has received an enormous amount of bad press lately. Over the last 30 to 40 years we’ve been told by governments and our health care system to keep our skin out of the sun because it causes cancer

The true facts are the cause of skin cancer doesnot lie entirely with the sun as there was very little a few years ago and it’s been slowly increasing over the last 40 to 50 years. The sun certainly hasn’t changed and the ozone layer that protects us from harmful radiation is only a problem over the Antarctic where nobody lives but there is something else that has changed over that same period.

It’s the sun, combined with nutritional deficiency that is causing so much skin cancer. It’s the irritation caused by the sun burn that will determine where the cancer will take hold, but it’s the nutritional deficiencies and other lifestyle factors which is causing it to grow and that’s why it keeps reappearing after treatments. The current treatments are not addressing the root cause of the problem and we of course are just blaming the sun. Continue reading ‘Skin Cancer And Melanomas, Learn The Truth About The Sun’ »

I know that many people wonder how does body produce collagen, and why it does manufacture lower amounts of this structural protein as we get older. Most are concerned about this mainly due to the effect that the slowed production of this tissue has on their skin. What you need to understand is that this tissue is used for many purposes throughout the body.

The same type of collagen that forms the connective structure of your skin is also the material that your organs, veins, and arteries are made of. When this tissue is being produced it is these vital areas that take precedence over your skin when it comes to receiving collagen for repair and maintenance. This is why your appearance takes the brunt of the impact when production begins to slow down.

So, how does body produce collagen? It all begins with a single cell, inside of which begins the formation of protein peptides. What these forming peptides are is short chains of amino acids, which are something that almost anyone in this newly fitness conscious world has heard of. These proteins make up the foundation for what will become the connective tissue of your skin.

Let’s face it. A lot of us suffer from what many simply refer to as bad skin, and are actively forced to seek an effective acne and oily skin care treatment. Most of the products used to treat oily and blemished skin are overrated, and contain compounds in them that can actually damage your skin even more. These formulas do not contain the ingredients best suited for giving you the clear, healthy skin you are after.

Oily skin is caused by overactive sebaceous glands that produce sebum, which serves as the healthy, lubricating substance for your skin. When there is excessive sebum production the normally light oil becomes heavy and thick. What happens in many cases is that oily skin becomes more susceptible to clogged pores, blackheads, and a buildup of dead skin cells on the surface.
