			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Marijuana is a dangerous addiction that affects and threatens the physical, emotional and professional well being of an individual. Its ill effects have made most countries ban its import except for therapeutic use. Yet it is smuggled through mysterious channels and is available to addicts at phenomenal prices. Marijuana addiction is awful, as it becomes an all-consuming passion, leaving room for little else in the addict&#8217;s mind. It alters the way his mind functions and makes it incapable of rational, intelligent thinking. Hence treating this addiction is crucial.</p>
<p>Treating the addiction to marijuana does not simply entail getting the addict to stop smoking it. It is a process of education where the addict has to be taught about its ill effects, short term, which he must be experiencing, and long term, which will ruin his life and that of his family as well. The three-step knowledge he needs is about addiction, recovery phase and the relapse. It is also important for the family to understand the reasons that pushed the addict towards marijuana, as often negativism, low self esteem, lack of confidence lead to a low sense of self worth and there is a need for an emotional anchor, which appears in the form of marijuana. It gives them the ability to feel good and be happy for sometime, till it becomes obsessive.</p>
<p>Marijuana addicts need to know how the drug works and how it affects their bodies. New addicts feel confident in being able to shake off their addiction, but it is not so easy. The starting point is always the addicts inclination to leave his addiction and his willingness to accept help. The treatment has to be customized to his needs and requirements, and requires a lot of family support and encouraging signs like reemployment opportunities and other feel-good factors. The process is long drawn and requires medication as well. Residential programs are available in many centers that have perfected techniques of de-addicting patients.</p>
<p><span id="more-3471"></span>But both in-house and outpatient programs need a minimum 90-day period to show significant improvement in the patient. It is not unusual to find addicts leaving before completing the treatment and then falling back into the marijuana trap. This makes the rehabilitation program even more difficult. Family support to work as a preventive for this would be ideal and could motivate the addict to complete his treatment join back where he left off at home, as a parent and possibly at work as well.</p>
<p>As in the case of other addictions, marijuana addictions also need to be treated sensitively, with family support and tenderness. Educating the addict about times ahead, the prospect of enjoyment even without marijuana, reinstilling confidence and making them feel responsible, all contribute to strengthening their resolve to fight this addiction.</p>

<p><strong>The working of Champix</strong></p>
<p>As a partial agonist, <strong>varenicline</strong> belongs to a subtype known as nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. Both nicotine and varenicline stimulate the same receptors in the brain. What this does is that Champix removes the cravings associated with nicotine withdrawal. Smokers, looking to quit, do not suffer as much from the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal when they take Champix. The medication also acts by blocking the receptors from the effects of nicotine that is inhaled as a result of smoking. This also means that the nicotine inhaled, does not provide the same pleasurable affect to the body. Because of this, smokers slowly but surely are able to cut down on their smoking.</p>
<p><strong>Champix dosages</strong></p>
<p>Available in tablet form, the dosage of this medication is to be taken over a period of 3 months (12 weeks). Typically, the starter pack of Champix has 11 white tablets of 0.5 mg each and 14 blue tablets of 1 mg each. The dosage that is usually prescribed is as follows:</p>
<ul>
<li>Between days 1 and 3, one needs to take 0.5mg of Champix daily</li>
<li>Between days 4 and 7, 0.5 mg of Champix must be taken once in the morning and once in the evening. The timings when you take the tablet must remain the same on all days</li>
<li>The 1 mg dosage of Champix begins from day 8 and continues on to day 14. Two tablets of Champix need to be taken two times a day, one in the morning and one in the evening, at the same time each day</li>
<li>From day 15, till you complete your treatment, you will be asked to take a 1 mg dose of Champix two times a day, in the morning and in the evening; same time each day.</li>
</ul>
<p>At times you might face some unpleasant side effects when you begin the 1mg dosage of <strong>Champix</strong>. If this is the case then you can go back to a 0.5mg dosage that can be taken two times a day throughout the duration of the treatment.</p>
<p><strong>Champix or Zyban</strong></p>
<p>Both medications help smokers stop smoking. But, their working is different. While Champix was always meant to be an <strong>anti-smoking drug</strong>, Zyban was originally developed as an anti-depressant. Many smokers want to quit smoking altogether which means breaking away from both sides of the smoking problem. However, there are others who simply want to change how they smoke due to issues of family, etc. Let&#8217;s see how to do this…</p>
<p>Habitual smoking</p>
<p>The physical activity of smoking i.e. buying the packet, opening it, putting the cigarette in your mouth, lighting it, and taking that first inhalation of smoke, form a pattern of behaviour that is repeated many, many times. Patterns of behaviour when continued for a while become habits. Your mind and body absorb the pattern into your normal daily activity and relatively quickly it becomes normal. In fact, the pattern becomes so ingrained that your mind and body actively crave the activity to fulfil part of its basic needs. This is when the smoking habit has become a powerful dependency that is difficult to change.<span id="more-42273"></span></p>
<p>On a psychological level the repeated physical actions associated with the smoking habit create emotional triggers: anticipation, desire, need, and eventually some form of fulfilment. These emotional triggers are what spur you on to continue with smoking and in this way reinforce the whole habit. The whole process takes on a self-generating cycle that goes around and around unless it is checked and the habitual process broken.</p>
<p>How smoking affects your family</p>
<p>For many smokers family life can be difficult, especially if you are the only smoker in the household, not because you smoke but because the activity of smoking brings with it other issues. The most obvious issue for non-smoking family members, such as young children, is the smoke from cigarettes. It has been well known for a long time that passive smoking, inhaling cigarette smoke from the environment, can be just as dangerous (if not more so) as smoking the actual cigarette. There are many recorded cases of lung cancer in young people who have never been smokers as a direct result of other family members smoking at home. Children are particularly prone to this problem later in life if one or both of the parents smoke at home.</p>
<p>A second aspect of smoking that can and does impact on family life is the hygiene and cleanliness issue. Cigarette smoke permeates everything it touches, clothes smell, hair smells, furniture smells. The smoke also discolours painted surfaces such as ceilings and upholstered furniture; you only have to go into a bar to see these effects. This can create a very unpleasant living environment for your family. Cigarettes also produce copious amounts of ash which, if not dealt with responsibly, can ruin clothing and furniture as well as generally being very unpleasant when it falls on a floor or table surface. Over full ashtrays are also very unpleasant for the family to live with.</p>
<p>Unpleasant as these things are, for the smoker who doesn&#8217;t want to quit smoking but does want to create a better home environment in which to raise healthy children and/or have fewer problems with a non-smoking partner or spouse, there is a simple solution. <p>You need to get out of your bubble and stop fooling yourself.  Smoking is bad for you and everyone around you.  In fact bad is such a childish word to use.  When it comes to the effects of smoking we should be using more words like devastating, debilitating, deadly and so forth and so forth.<span id="more-3004"></span></p>
<p>You can&#8217;t even say it&#8217;s your business and you can do what you want.  While that is relatively true you need to look around and see how you are affecting others by killing yourself with cigarettes.  I say you go right now and stop smoking naturally.  Just move on and get it over with.</p>
<p>Okay so you are still convinced that what you do to your body and health is your business.  Okay let&#8217;s just say that&#8217;s true.  Let&#8217;s just say we don&#8217;t care what you do to yourself.  The thing is we do care what you are doing to the people around you.  It has been proven that second hand smoke is just as deadly as the first pull of a smoke.  So what&#8217;s your excuse going to be now?</p>
<p>You need to understand that if you stop smoking naturally or with quit smoking aids you will be looked at as a hero instead of a chump.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m sorry to say this isn&#8217;t 1960 anymore when it seemed that smoking was the cool thing to do.  Except for a very few very smart individuals everyone was smoking.  There really weren&#8217;t many places you couldn&#8217;t smoke.  Offhand I am thinking maybe church and that was about it.  Hell you could even smoke in your hospital room back then</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not really sure if we were all stupid way back when.  Well way back when just doesn&#8217;t matter anymore.  It is time to move forward, time to come to the land of reality.  You can sit back and pretend you are doing no harm to yourself or the people around you.  My question is, are you really willing to take the chance of getting your kids or grandkids sick because of how selfish you are.</p>
<p>The time has come.  It&#8217;s time to pop that bubble and get into the real world.  I suggest you put in the effort and do whatever it takes to become a non smoker.  Many, many ways will do it.  I suggest you stop smoking naturally but that is an option you need to look at.</p>
